Brandon Mistborn is a PvP Vendor in Wizard City, located outside of the Arena on Unicorn Way with Diego and Roland Silverheart. His shop is called “Mistborn’s Trophies”, which offers a variety of prizes in exchange for Arena Tickets.
Brandon Sanderson (born December 19, 1975) is an American author of epic fantasy and science fiction. He is best known for the Cosmere fictional universe, in which most of his fantasy novels, most notably the Mistborn series and The Stormlight Archive, are set.
He created Sanderson’s Laws of Magic and popularized the idea of “hard magic” and “soft magic” systems. Sanderson’s three laws of magic are creative writing guidelines that can be used to create magic systems for fantasy stories.
- 1 An author’s ability to solve conflict with magic is directly proportional to how well the reader understands said magic.
- 2 Weaknesses, limits and costs are more interesting than powers.
- 3 The author should expand on what is already a part of the magic system before something entirely new is added, as this may otherwise entirely change how the magic system fits into the fictional world.
And the Zeroth Law
- 0 Always err on the side of what’s awesome.
It is quite obvious that the creators of Wizard101 know of and adhere to Sanderson’s Laws of Magic.
I have always loved the pop culture references in Wizard (and Pirate) 101. This series was inspired by a series I did featuring the Heroes of Lemuria and their ties to early 20th Cent. pulp heroes. This is the eighth article chronicling the #W101PopCulture references starting in Wizard City. The current list of all the (known) Wizard City references can be found here. These articles were originally put together for a Facebook group I belong to. Although I am well versed in Pop Culture references but I do not claim to have caught them all. Let me know your favorites in the comments and if I’ve missed one you caught, let me know so I can add it to the list.
