Apep the Snaky One

We meet again, Wizard. I thought about dealing with you in Lower Zigazag, but something told me fate had bigger plans for us. Ammit is preparing to judge a group of Mander Souls now. If we hurry, I’ll make sure your soul is bumped to the head of the line!

Apep the Snaky One

Apep (also spelled Apepi or Aapep) or Apophis was the ancient Egyptian deity who embodied chaos (ı͗zft in Egyptian) and was thus the opponent of light and Ma’at (order/truth). He appears in art as a giant serpent. His name is reconstructed by Egyptologists as *ʻAʼpāp(ī), Apep was first mentioned in the Eighth Dynasty, and he was honored in the names of the Fourteenth Dynasty king ‘Apepi and of the Greater Hyksos king Apophis.

Fans of Stargate SG-1 may recall that the Gooa’uld system lords were worshipped as gods by the ancient Egyptians. Apophis was once an extremely powerful Goa’uld System Lord. The brother of the Supreme System Lord Ra, Apophis originally commanded a minor fleet, but grew in strength to command the power of multiple System Lords that had been killed during his reign. Ultimately, he succeeded Ra as the dominant System Lord after the latter’s death. He possessed only one human host in his life.
