Car Wars: The Lawn Mauler

Way back when, I remembered seeing an ad in an ADQ for a lawn mower. The description of Ballard, OK (Map #3) specifically describes a family who is responsible for keeping the town’s grass cut. I could not remember for the LIFE of me which ADQ (out of 40) had the Ad. And since the Rogers family cuts Ballard’s grass I really wanted to include this “Deep Cut” Car Wars classic in the description.

The text of the ad reads thusly:

Lawn Mauler riding motors.

Armed with a 36-inch cut and a .50 caliber MG, the Mauler can cut in half
your time in the yard, or anyone who tries to slow you down. The motor and
blade housing are fully armored, and the Mauler comes equipped with the
attached holster for your favorite sidearms. Solid, deep-tread tires are
standard. Optional grass catchers, trailers, garden implements, and rear
firing MG mounts are available at your local Prometheus Lawn Mauler
dealer.

Lawn Mauler — Riding mower, mower motor (2 DP, 400 Power Factors, Top
Speed 30 mph), light suspension, standard chassis, 4 solid micro-tires (2
DP each), driver, MG front. Plastic armor: F2, R3 (protects motor only),
L3, B7 (armored seat back), U7 (blade housing). Accel. 10, HC 0; 800 lbs.,
$2,720.

Optional equipment includes a grass catcher ($50, 20 lbs., adds 2 points
of armor to Right side) and a cart ($100, 50 lbs., has 2 solid
micro-tires, armor cost/weight is $5/5 lbs. per point, has a 500 lb.
weight capacity — keep in mind the Power Factors of the motor when
figuring total weight).

Other implements are also available — it’s up to the referee to determine
specifics.

Zero-turn Radius. Mower can perform the Pivot maneuver as a D0 at 15 mph or less as a D1 at 20-20 mph

Riding Mower blade 10DP – Does 1 D6 damage per second the blade is over something with less DP than the blade. 1 D6 – 2 for each second the blade is over something with equal DP and blade takes 1 damage. Blade does 1 D6- 4 every second over something greater then equal DP but less than double DP. Blade takes 1 D6 – 2 every second over something greater than double blade DP. If the blade is down to 75% of beginning DP it has a 1-in-6 chance of jamming each second. If the blade jams, the operator has 2 seconds to disengage (that would be the action for the turn) the blade or the feedback will start the power plant to overheat. At the third second the power plant has a 1-in-6 chance of catching fire, 2-in-6 at the fourth, 3-in-6 at the 5th and the engine WILL catch fire after 8 seconds.

If the operator is killed and falls off the mower it will come to a stop, the blades will disengage and the mower will idle.

If the operator is killed and does not fall off, the mower will continue in the direction it was traveling at the engaged speed until it runs into an obstacle large enough to stop it or the dead operator falls off whichever comes first.

Lawn Mauler Jr. – Push Mower, push mower power plant (1 DP, 200 Power Factors,) 4 solid micro tires (-6) to target directly (1 DP each). Consider this a two-handed weapon. The operator at running speed can push the mower over anything in his or her path with no roll necessary. If an adult operator is standing still, the mower can be picked up and swung (pivot the counter on the pedestrian) anything the mower hits will take DAMAGE. Roll 1 D6 on a 1 or 2 the object in question will also take blade damage as described below.
