Map #5 of 12 for Ballard, OK

20 – Seemingly Abandoned single story home (5 DP) – 212 Main St., concrete driveway with a concrete patio out back. Continued from Map #4
21 – Seemingly Abandoned single story home (5 DP) – 210 Main St., tool shed (4 pts metal armor) shed out back (on Map #2). The Marauders like this home when they are stealthily in town (i.e. hiding in plain sight), the garage is huge and can easily accommodate more than a dozen bikes. When the Marauders took over Ballard, they were pleased to discover the former owner of the house was a backyard mechanic. He left behind a garage full of tools. Most of the members of the gang have tinkered on their bikes in this garage.
22 – Abandoned single story home (4 DP) – 206 Main St., shares a driveway with 204 Main St (23). This house had mostly been taken over Ernest “Hambone” Bertson (Driver +2, Gunner +2, Mech +2). He uses it for storage. How did the Marauders pick Ballard? Hambone’s oldest son, Oscar, rides with gang. Hambone is in his late 60s. He was (and still is) the quintessential individualist, survivalist and ready for anything. He served in the Oklahoma Militia during the Second Civil War, retired back home to Ballard and tried to continue his life from before the war.
Seeing the political winds shifting and being prepared for the worst, Hambone knew that the new Free State of Oklahoma would not be able to protect the interior cities and towns from gangs and hostile factions of Native Americans intent on reclaiming “Lost Land”. Through Oscar, Hambone contacted the Marauders. He knew his town was dying and because of the functioning oil well, someone would eventually come and try to force the remaining citizens out, most likely with a high cost to life. Hambone convinced a good portion of his neighbors to accept the Marauders as Feudal Lords. The Marauders get a base of operations, the oil well, and other facilities and in turn the citizens that wanted to stay, do. In exchange for keeping the infrastructure running, they get protection from other area gangs.
Hambone is the de facto “Mayor” of the remaining citizens and the liaison between them and the gang. Monty doesn’t deal with the townies (unless necessary) and the Marauders come to Hambone if there’s a grievance with a townie.
43-C – Part of the Ballard Bulldogs ball field, this ball field has seen much better days. The field is now Ballard’s ad-hoc dueling arena. Most of the field is on Map #8 and the description is with the main entry for 43
23 – Single story home (5 DP) – 204 Main St., shares a driveway with 206 Main St (22). Detached garage (4 DP) at end of driveway. There is a shed (5 pts metal armor) at the back of the property (located on Map #2) with easy access to the alley. There are many vehicles on the property in various states of repair, none look new but most of them look drive-able.
This is the home of Ernest “Hambone” Bertson – 67 (Driver +3, Mechanic +2, Cyclist, Gunner +2, Survivalist +2), his “young” (no skills but she is ‘Hot’) wife Denise – 35 and “kids” (mainly the younger gang members, numbers and stats at DMs discretion but they are young and all skills will be at starting level) [Oscar – 25 (Cyclist +3, Gunner +2, Mech +1) stays in one of the gang’s flop houses but can be found here helping dad and mentoring the younger gang members when in town. Hambone’s other two grown children live safely in New Tulsa].
Hambone is a Prepper, decent back yard mechanic, and VERY protective of the citizens of Ballard (Marauder and civilian). He views the kids (gang members 16-21 and children 3-18 of the community as his personal responsibility. He home schools the kids in the old school building on M, W, F and teaches ‘shop’ on his property the rest of the time. The younger kids call him “Teacher”, the older folks call him “Sir”. Only a select few are allowed to call him Hambone. If the town comes under attack, Hambone herds the kids into his bomb shelter (access NW corner of his bedroom) that he has built under his house.
At any given time, there are 5-9 4-wheel vehicles in various states of repair on the property. Additionally, Hambone’s baby is kept in the garage, a 1957 Chevrolet Bel-Air that he is in the process of restoring.
24 – Two story home (5 DP) – 203 Main St., this used to be the home of the school/ballfield custodian/security personnel and in a manner of speaking it still is. Alex Murphy – 61 (Cyclist +2, Gunner +2, Driver +1, Fighter +2) and his wife Anne – 58 (Medic +1, Computer Tech +1, Gunner +1) are the last surviving founding members of the Marauders. The gang members respectfully call them “Old Man” and “Mom”. They live here along with provisional gang members; visitors who’ve survived “Fun & Games”, survivors of raids who have surrendered, and the occasional volunteer. (DMs choice on number and skill levels of provisional gang members at the time of the game [at least 2 no more than 9]).
Monty doesn’t demand perfection from his gang but does expect loyalty. He also doesn’t want a raid to go badly or defense of their home base to suffer because some ‘Noob’ bailed at the last moment or failed in some aspect. Alex and Anne train the “recruits” (provisional gang members). The recruits don’t get to leave town with the gang until Alex approves and are the ones who man various positions in town when the gang is tooling up and down Route or I-44. More than one smart-mouthed punk who thought he or she could take the old man are now resting comfortably at St. Timothy’s. Alex may be in his sixties, but he takes no crap from anyone and can back up his bravado in a confrontation. Alex and Monty may not always see eye-to-eye, but Monty will always take Alex’s advice under consideration.
Alex and Anne make sure the “Arena” (as it is locally called) is cleaned up after “Fun & Games”
Hambone, may be “Teacher” to the younger members of the community, but Alex and Anne are “Grampa” and “Gramma”. If you do anything to one of the children in town, you deal with the tag-team of Hambone and Alex.
25 – Obviously occupied by the Marauders single story home (5 DP) – 202 Main St., attached 2-stall garage driveway exits onto First St.
Turreted VMGs linked, flank the driveway covering First Street opposite the Keep. These guns are fired remotely from inside the house using a Hi-Res targeting computer, the operator is at least Gunner +2
This house and #29 are the two primary flop houses for the gang. This house is the nicer of the two and is reserved for more senior members of the Marauders. Both houses are so obviously occupied that visitors tend to overlook #26. And that oversight suits the gang nicely.
Gang members staying at the house will conspicuously park their bikes on the lawn, leaving the driveway clear. This is because there are two dual ready off-road pickups parked in the garage.
Concrete patio on the western side of the property extends onto Map #2
26 – Seemingly abandoned two story home, reinforced (10 DP) – 201 Main St., detached garage. This home is decorated to look abandoned. In fact, when they are in town it is always occupied by no less than three Marauders (five-six when the Marauders are out and about [actual full-fledged gang members not provisional recruits]). They are on guard duty watching the Keep, the flop houses and the visible portions of First and Main streets. Their bikes are kept out of sight in the garage. ANY unwelcome or unauthorized vehicle in town is targeted as soon as they are visible, unless the Marauders are attempting to lure said vehicle and its occupants into town. The invading vehicle is fired upon as soon as the vehicle is in range of the guns at the intersection.
The three turreted linked VMGs at the intersection of First and Main are operated remotely by a Marauder inside #26. Said gunner is at least Gunner +2 and uses a Hi-Res Targeting Computer.
27 – Abandoned? two story home (5 DP) – 302 First St., decrepit attached carport (2 DP).
This home is completely abandoned. No one is inside should anyone attempt to take shelter inside.
28 – Fortified Gang Headquarters / Warlord’s Keep – 120 Main St., Anti-Tank guns in turrets at corners, reinforced concrete (30 DP) walls with barbed wire at top. This fortress practically screams STAY AWAY! Two story (6 DP) home inside bunker, single story storage building (5 DP) at the back of the compound (on Map #2) houses Monty’s stores, weapons cache, and spare ammo. The entrance to the compound is a heavy wrought iron gate (10 pts metal armor) facing Main Street. The gate can be opened from within the compound or by entering a 6-digit code on the keypad.
Monty – 31 (Driver +3, Cyclist +3, Gunner +3, Trucker +2) his girlfriend Carol – 25 (Gunner +3, Paramedic +1, Tech +1) and three kids (Darren – 6, Anna Beth – 4, and Wayne – 2) live here. You might be wondering why Monty has a +2 Trucker skill, in addition to needing to be able to drive the occasional “rescued” RV, Monty purchased a “Killer RV” direct from Winnebago. It is parked on the gravel path between the Keep and the guard barracks (#30 on Map 6). The Killer RV is screened from view by the Keep, the barracks and two draw bridges one to the east and one to the west (10 seconds to raise or lower, 15 pts of metal armor if raised). The eastern draw bridge is necessary for the RV to exit its enclosure on to Main Street without bottoming out in the ditch between Main Street and the sidewalk.
29 – Obviously occupied single story home (6 DP) – 121 Main St. This is the gang’s main flop house. If they aren’t kidnapping tourists, dueling on the old ball field, manning a defensive position, stripping down vehicles at the scrap yard, or carousing in the bar, the gang members are here. At any given time, there are 10-12 bikes parked around the house. The gravel path driveway connects to First St., though that doesn’t stop gang members from parking anywhere they want on the parched lawn. There is a detached garage (Map #8) which exits out onto the alley. There are always 8 members of Monty’s elite guard on duty when the gang is out marauding and 4 when the gang is in town.
The large entryway to the back exits out of the open living room onto a blacktop patio.
