Vesper is the middle daughter of Silenus and historian of Atlantea. She sends your wizard on a Poseidon Adventure! In a turn-around from most Aquilan inspirations, Vesper actaully takes her name from the Roman god and not the Greek.
In Greek mythology, Hesperus is the Evening Star, (not actually a star but rather the planet Venus in the evening). He is one of the Astra Planeta. A son of the dawn goddess Eos (Roman Aurora), he is the half-brother of her other son, Phosphorus (also called Eosphorus; the “Morning Star”). Hesperus’ Roman equivalent is Vesper (cf. “evening”, “supper”, “evening star”, “west”). By one account, Hesperus’ father was Cephalus, a mortal, while Phosphorus was the star god Astraios. Other sources, however, state that Hesperus was the brother of Atlas, and thus the son of Iapetus.
The quest Vesper sends your wizard on is a reference to the 1972 (and 2005 remake) 20th Century Fox film adaptation of The Poseidon Adventure, a 1969 novel written by Paul Gallico.
The current list of all the (known) Aquila references are located here.
Although I am well versed in Pop Culture references, I do not claim to have caught them all. Let me know your favorites in the comments and if I’ve missed one you caught, let me know so I can add it to the list.
