Map #10 of 12 for Ballard, OK

Map #10
54 – Motel Monte Vista (Brick Structure 10 DP) – 415 Route 66. The hotel is owned and operated by the Vasquez family (Enrique Vasquez – 57; Driver +1, Gunner +1, Hospitality +2, Special FX +2, Isabella – 55; Driver, Hospitality +2, Medic, Sofia – 25; Driver +1, Gunner +1, Hospitality +2, Medic, Gordon – 22; Driver +2, Gunner +1, Cyclist +1, Hospitality +1, Mechanical +2, Special FX +2, Valentina – 18; Driver, Gunner, Hospitality +2, and Gabriela – 16; Driver, Gunner, Hospitality +2). They live in an apartment connected to the Lobby. His oldest son Martin lives at 204 First Street (Bldg #8 Map #2). The Motel has been modified over the years. What used to be a 10-room motel is now a 5-room motel with secure garages attached to each room. Visitors are lulled into some complacency thinking their vehicles are safe from predators while they sleep. It is a 0 Star motel. It would fall somewhere between abandoned rat trap and seedy if the AADA travel guide had ratings that low. The Vasquez family lets visiting family members and distinguished VIPs of the Marauders stay for free (usually in Room #5 but never in Room #2 or #1) and in turn the Marauders protect the property. Rates vary according to what Mr. Vasquez thinks he can charge without scaring travelers away.
In the grassy knoll between Route 66 and the parking lot is a well-cared for 1950’s era Route 66 Motel sign which proudly proclaims this to be the Motel Monte Vista (Sign 4 DP, 3’ tall stone enclosure 15 DP). The sign still works and has been completely restored to its full neon luster. The only change from what the sign looks like today and what visitors to Ballard saw when driving down Route 66 is the additional blurb “The Haunted Motel Monte Vista as seen on “Ghost Plumbers”. All street lights and flood lights are still operational.
The Motel Monte Vista had some notoriety in the late 90s. During the height of the Cable TV era, the popular show “Ghost Plumbers” [Two plumbers and their team of Ghost Hunters stay overnight and try to record any evidence of supernatural activity. While they are there, they fix the plumbing as well.] came out and filmed for an episode. The cast and crew had so many experiences that the cable channel turned the episode into a two-parter. Disembodied voices, strange levitating objects and what is purported to be the first ever video evidence of a “ghost” were all caught and filmed. The host of the show labeled the motel as The Most Haunted Place they had ever investigated. During filming one member of the crew vanished and was never seen again (the plumbers gave her a touching eulogy at the end of the episode). Needless to say, believers still think the place is one of the most haunted in Oklahoma. Even yet today, ghost hunters brave the journey on Route 66 to travel to Ballard and stay at the Monte Vista.
The Vasquez family is VERY proud of their 15 minutes of fame. Photographs of the production as well as an autographed picture of the “Ghost Plumbers” stars mugging for the camera with the then family members decorate the lobby. The still functioning neon sign proudly proclaims the motel to be The HAUNTED Motel Monte Vista as seen on “Ghost Plumbers.”
Why? Because all though the building does have unexplained paranormal activities happening, the Vasquez family pays their dues to the gang by abducting single visitors or easily preyed upon small groups or isolated members of larger groups for the gang to add to the “fun and games” roster. Disappearances are always conveniently blamed on the ghost. The AADA Guide warns about this and strongly cautions travelers to stay at the Motel in groups.
DM Notes Room #2 is the actual haunted room, though all but room #5 are “haunted” via SFX. Room #1 is connected to the Vasquez’s apartment via a hidden door. If you stay in Room #1 you are guaranteed to be staying in Ballard far longer than you planned.
55 – St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church – 217 Damian’s Way. A three-building complex with a cemetery (surrounded by a 4 DP Chain Link fence) to the north of the parking lot and building running nearly to the old rail line.
The dilapidated sign (7 DP) at the entrance still proclaims that this is St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church. Service times and pastor names are faded out. What this sign conceals is a buried pop-up turret with linked VMGs. These VMGs are set off when anyone drives over the trigger plate on the entrance drive to the church.
55-A The main church has two bell towers and a high-peaked roof. The front (Brick Structure 10 DP) part of the sanctuary is a single room. There is a balcony over the lobby which houses the organ and provides access to the three-story tall bell towers (Brick 10 DP). Behind the sanctuary to the east is a two-story portion which housed Sunday School rooms, the Pastor’s office, and storage. A two-story expansion (6 DP) connected to the rear of the Church on the east side added more classroom space. Continued on Map #11
