Hans Boer – 55, a widower with no kids, (Trucker +2, Driver +2, Mech +2, Gunner) worked for the ODOT (Oklahoma Department of Transportation) straight out of High School.  Hans was posted to the Turnpike Maintenance Shed #42 located as part of the (officially closed and no longer used, unofficially? Different story.) Ballard Toll Exit off I-44.  He was lead Supervisor at Shed #42 when the new Leadership of the Free State of Oklahoma decided to shut down the exit and barricade it.  Hans handpicked the team that “shut down” the shed and “Barricaded” the exit.  He and his team built nicely a disguised secure entry and exit onto the Turnpike.  Instead of shutting down Shed #42, they fortified it all while letting the government think the exit was decommissioned and all equipment returned.  Hans’ team lives at Fortress #42 and defends it when necessary.

When the ODT decided to wall off I-44 to prevent cycle gangs and roaming gangs of Native Americans from setting up unauthorized toll booths, they also decided to shutter “unprofitable” access points to the turnpike. The Ballard Exit and subsequently Shed #42 were deemed “unprofitable” and marked for closure. Hans and his crew were told they would be transferred to a functioning facility.

It was right around this time that Hambone had set his plan in motion to protect Ballard from those same hostile Native Americans and cycle gangs. Hans was one of the first Ballard citizens contacted about the plan to invite the Marauders into town. Hambone was very persuasive in his arguments and convinced Hans it was necessary.

Instead of closing down the exit, Hans and his team barricaded it to outsiders but kept it functional for the Marauders and citizens of Ballard. It was this unfettered access to I-44 that initially appealed to Crazy Mary. Hans and his team also fortified the grounds of Shop #42. They took over the old Carolyn Inn as a barracks and now keep “their” stretch of I-44 as clean and safe as possible.
