Thornton Lewis

Thornton Lewis is the explorer in charge of surveying the District of the Stars. He needs quite a bit of assistance now that the Piscean Guard has run amok.

As part of the side quest Worlds Beyond, Thornton asks your wizard to sketch the Grand Spiral Chart for him as he’s “not much of an artist.” Thornton is impressed with your wizard’s artistic merits.

Thornton Willis (born May 25, 1936) is an American abstract painter. He has contributed to the New York School of painting since the late 1960s. Viewed as a member of the Third Generation of American Abstract Expressionists, his work is associated with Abstract Expressionism, Lyrical Abstraction, Process Art, Postminimalism, Bio-morphic Cubism (a term he coined) and Color Field painting.

There is some debate as to whether or not this actually a pop culture reference. However, the names are too similar and the dialogue from the side quest is a bit on the nose. I make no judgement as to if the dialogue is ironic or not.

The current list of all the (known) Celestia references are located here.

Although I am well versed in Pop Culture references, I do not claim to have caught them all. Let me know your favorites in the comments and if I’ve missed one you caught, let me know so I can add it to the list.
