Car Wars is often looked at as nothing more than “Build Your Car”, “Fight with your Car”, “Lather, Rinse, Repeat.” If played under those conditions, the game can become boring and repetitive quickly. My boys and I enjoy this game far too much to let it become boring.
Here are 10 Car Wars Scenarios for you to incorporate into your game. Also, I am opening this up for a vote. In the comments list which one you like the best, the top vote-getter will be turned into a full fledged map and incorporated into one of our towns; Ballard OK, Ballard WA, Uni IA, or The Quad IA. Please note these are bare bones suggestions; budgets, vehicle designs, etc. will need to be developed.
1. The Dealer – Small local dealership has auto-duelist on payroll to pick fights out on the road for the salvage of the losers to keep his lot fully stocked. You’ve been hired as the duelist.
2. The Dealer II – That local dealer who has been boosting his inventory with road-duel salvage picked a fight with an out-of-town Big Shot from the Big City. Your crew has been hired to take revenge on the dealership and you keep anything on the lot that is still drivable afterwards.
3. Tow-Truck Rivals – Who cleans up the aftermath of vehicular mayhem? On the open road? no one. Scavengers will pick the carcasses clean before anyone could report the wreckage and call to have it removed. Small towns have someone on call to remove the remains. In the bigger cities, there is more than one tow company. They monitor the frequencies and fight for the right to remove the aftermath of an autoduel. 2-man teams (truck and escort) fight their way to the now-finished autoduel and try to recover the salvage.
4. The Gauntlet – This road is the ONLY way to get from A to B and the local teens know it. This stretch of road has been booby-trapped to the Nth degree. You and your crew need to survive. Could work either in town or out in the country.
5. Driving School – Completely New Characters with NO skills at all. Imagine driving school with paintball weapons. If you “die” you fail and don’t get your license.
6. The Prototype – Alienwerx Automotive is shipping their BRAND New prototype from their plant in (location) to the 2073 Autoshow in (location). You and your crew have been hired to steal the prototype and return it one piece to MegaCorp. However, it’s up to you and your crew to find out where, when, and how. Intercept the delivery, steal the prototype and then make the delivery to MegaCorp.
7. East Bound and Down – You and your crew have earned quite the reputation as Road Warriors. Big Ernie and Little Ernie have challenged you and your crew to bring him a load of Beer from Texas to Georgia with a $250,000 Convoy. If you and the beer survive you win $1,000,000. If not you keep what’s left of your convoy. The catch? Defensive weapons only. You can add a time limit to this as well.
8. East Bound and Downer – Big Ernie and Little Ernie are playing more than one game. Your crew has been given $250,000 to hijack the shipment. You do have offensive weapons but you have to deliver the truck and beer intact to Big Ernie in Atlanta to win the bet.
9. Escape – You and your convoy (cars, trucks or both) were ambushed on (Interstate). You managed to survive the fight. Your now damaged convoy is at the exit and needs to get to the safety of the fortified Truckstop. Normal build but pre-damage all vehicles to simulate the fight they just escaped. The catch? The ambush was only meant to weaken the convoy. The vultures are between you and the truckstop.
10. The Maze – The Players (may or not be members of the regular team) have been captured (somehow, the how doesn’t matter) find them selves vehicle-less and weaponless in the middle of two-container tall maze. The PCs must find their way through the maze. If they work together some containers will be booby-trapped and open fire. Hand held weapons will be found littering the maze. The maze is just wide-enough for a vehicle to drive down the middle and if the pedestrian hugs the side can escape unharmed. There are X identical cars (one for each PC) located throughout the maze. Winners survive and exit the maze.
Ref: DO not reveal the whole map at once. Reveal it as the PCs explore it. The exit is a locked gate that cannot be opened by a pedestrian. It CAN be rammed through by a vehicle.
