The Sweet Trio of Weird Sisters: Samantha, Endora, and Tabitha – A Wizard101 Extra Credit article

November’s Wizard101 Extra Credit Assignment was to do a collaborative piece. I was contacted by Exp613, A Wizard101 Twitter friend. She wanted to write a piece about HER favorite Wizard101 pop culture Easter Egg. I thought that was a great idea and was even more enthused when her favorite turned out to be #7 on my Top Ten list, Samantha, Endora, and Tabitha from Karamelle. Without further ado, here is Exp613’s article.

In the whimsical land of Karamelle, where candies come to life and magic fills the air, our attention turns to the Weird Sisters—Samantha, Endora, and Tabitha. These enchanting sisters play a crucial role in the quest to uncover the sour secret behind Nana’s Old Fashioned Karamelle Delights. The Weird Sisters is a reference to the three witches in William Shakespeare’s play MacBeth as they spin the tale of fate of those in that play. Additionally, the Weird Sisters are a musical group, both in our world and the world of Harry Potter.

More specifically however, our Karamelle incarnations are additionally sweet fairy-like witch incarnations of three famous witches from beloved 1960s sitcom Bewitched. “Bewitched” is a classic American television sitcom that originally aired from 1964 to 1972. Created by Sol Saks and produced by Harry Ackerman, the show revolves around the life of Samantha Stephens, a witch played by Elizabeth Montgomery, who marries a mortal man named Darrin Stephens. The central premise involves Samantha’s attempt to live a normal suburban life despite her magical abilities and relatives. Dick York initially portrayed Darrin Stephens until 1969 when health issues led to his departure, and Dick Sargent took over the role until the show’s conclusion in 1972. Agnes Moorehead played the mischievous witch Endora, Samantha’s mother. “Bewitched” became a beloved sitcom, known for its blend of fantasy, humor, and social commentary. The show’s success was attributed to engaging characters, witty writing, and the delightful performances of its cast, particularly Elizabeth Montgomery’s memorable portrayal of Samantha Stephens. Bewitched is something of a pop-culture phenomenon with a statue in Salem, Massachusetts being commissioned in 2005 regarding “witch” culture.

In Karamelle, Samantha steps into the shoes of a brilliant scientist, once dedicated to the sweet pursuits of Nana’s Old Fashioned Karamelle Delights being Nana’s Chief Science Officer. She boasts a splendid green color and talks to an unseen familiar whose name appears to constantly be changing. Her sister’s Endora (red) and Tabitha (purple) also put on their sugar scientist caps and help the wizard uncover what is making Nana’s gummies sour. The three are also part of the W.I.T.C.H group that is attempting a coup of Nana’s Old Fashioned Karamelle Delights. An additional fun fact is that during the Test realm for Karamelle, Endora’s name was originally spelled as “Andora” a country before exp613 brought it to the attention of the developers that it’s actually Endora to be consistent with Samantha and Tabitha.
