Addendum 1//23/2024 – Angela N. wants to know what happens once the species has infected all other life forms on the planet and whether or not Starfleet has placed a warning buoy in orbit. Or does Starfleet just figure that anyone stupid enough to visit deserves to become a “native”?

Of all the members of the crew to use for this episode, Geordie was the one who they shouldn’t have done. After Geordie goes native, Data configures a torch that allows things in the UV spectrum to be seen by the naked eye, hence they are able to see the aliens. However, it has already been established that Geordie can see in the UV spectrum, so should have seen them all when he first beamed down.
