Miranda

Thank you to Ashley D. for pointing out the Star Trek reference.

After the Ark crashes on Aeriel Shores near Nowhere Village, Miranda is one of the first inhabitants you meet. She needs some help.

She sends you into the jungle to find the Hollow Deck (another Star Trek reference – Holodeck), a mgical artifact that that creates illusions of people that can come to life. She also needs you to gather Crab Apples for food. One last thing, you will need to help her correct a Hollow Deck malfunction.

“Is There in Truth No Beauty?” is the fifth episode of the third season of the American science fiction television series Star Trek. Written by Jean Lisette Aroeste and directed by Ralph Senensky, it was first broadcast on October 18, 1968. Diana Muldaur guest stars as Doctor Miranda Jones, a blind telepath who specialized in the field of psychology. She wore a special sensor web which allowed her to perceive her environment.

Dr. Miranda Jones (Diana Muldaur)

In 2268, she was given an assignment to coordinate with the Medusan Ambassador Kollos after the initial offer to Commander Spock was turned down. Her assignment’s success was based upon her ability to achieve a true mind link.

The Tempest is a play by William Shakespeare, probably written in 1610–1611, and thought to be one of the last plays that he wrote alone. After the first scene, which takes place on a ship at sea during a tempest, the rest of the story is set on a remote island, where Prospero, a complex and contradictory character, lives with his daughter Miranda, and his two servants: Caliban, a savage monster figure, and Ariel, an airy spirit. The play contains music and songs that evoke the spirit of enchantment on the island. It explores many themes, including magic, betrayal, revenge, and family. In Act IV, a wedding masque serves as a play-within-a-play, and contributes spectacle, allegory, and elevated language.

Miranda is the daughter of Prospero, another of the main characters of The Tempest. She was banished to the Island along with her father at age three, and in the subsequent twelve years has lived with her father and their slave, Caliban, as her only company. She is openly compassionate and unaware of the evils of the world that surrounds her, learning of her father’s fate only as the play begins.
