Recently, I was commissioned to produce a logo for a fictional college football team for the EA game College Football 25. This one was a creative challenge. The team is called the Sin City Wildcards and based in Las Vegas. My client wanted the logo based off his tattoo.
After I went through some possible pieces of artwork from AdobeStock we settled on his preferred joker and skull. This was my first pass.
I nailed the concept but my client wanted the joker face to line up with skull in the Ace of Spades.
Better, but we needed to included one the joker’s eyes. Also the joker looks too much like The Joker and my client REALLY wanted a jester hat. My idea for more flame was deemed too much
Neither I nor my client could find just the right jester hat. Until my client stated his reasons for choosing the first joker was in fact the hat and not the skull. Hat problem solved.
Much better. But not quite there.
Removed the corner burn and the rosy cheek. Added an outline for “Joker” to make it pop.
Trying it with just the “J”
No, we like Joker spelled out. And I muted the white face paint so the weathered playing card shows up better.
Minor tweeks, put out the fire, remove the hair and hat highlights
Add some fire back in and redo the burn line. Add the hair back.
Recolored the hair an viola` this project is done.
