Having the Force as your Ally is one of the hallmarks of being a Jedi Knight. However, as evidenced numerous times (like here, why have we never seen a Jedi speed run anywhere else?) the Force can be fickle about when and where a Jedi can tap into the abilities. Obi-Wan is able to push General Grievous back away from him later in the film but is nearly overwhelmed by Buzz Droids in the opening sequence. Perhaps concentration is the key.
