Tom Holstein

The Shadoe wants your wizard to see that not everyone is your enemy that some of the people working for the Bosses that you fight are just trying to survive. After you gather Fossa Fur and Wildland Cherries to help those in need, you deliver the supplies. Tom Holstein, a member of the Moo Crew, is your third stop. He thinks you fought in jail and is quite surprised when you give him blankets and fruit.

This ones not clear cut. I actually found a Tom Holsteen in my research but he is currently a doctoral candidate at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, studying the history of Christianity in the Latin West in late antiquity. I somehow doubt this is the inspiration. Brenda J. G. looked up Tom Holstein and found a freelance blogger, a Prof. Dr Tom Holstein and a diplomat by the same name. She also found a Tom Holsten that’s a disc golfer and another associated with Rutgers Law as a speaker and a younger one who looks to be a young athlete of some kind. None of these seem famous enough to be the reference. Someone suggested Joel Osteen, the televangelist, except his name isn’t Tom.

My better half suggested Tom Holland as Renee Mooso and Paul Cudd reference actors from the MCU, but my guess is that if KI was riffing on Tom Holland the NPC would’ve been named Tom Hollbrand. However, it got me thinking what other Tom(s) are in the MCU? If anyone at KI can confirm my guess I’d be appreciative.

A Holstein heifer

The Holstein Friesian is an international breed or group of breeds of dairy cattle. It originated in Frisia, stretching from the Dutch province of North Holland to the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. It is the dominant breed in industrial dairy farming worldwide, and is found in more than 160 countries. It is known by many names, among them Holstein, Friesian and Black and White.

With the growth of the New World, a demand for milk developed in North America and South America, and dairy breeders in those regions at first imported their livestock from the Netherlands. However, after about 8,800 Friesians (black pied German cows) had been imported, Europe stopped exporting dairy animals due to disease problems.

Black and white cattle from Europe were introduced into the US from 1621 to 1664. The eastern part of New Netherland (modern day New York and Connecticut), where many Dutch farmers settled along the Hudson and Mohawk River valleys. They probably brought cattle with them from their native land and crossed them with cattle purchased in the colony. For many years afterwards, the cattle here were called Dutch cattle and were renowned for their milking qualities.

The first recorded imports were more than 100 years later, consisting of six cows and two bulls. These were sent in 1795 by the Holland Land Company, which then owned large tracts in New York, to their agent, Mr. John Lincklaen of Cazenovia. A settler described them thus, “the cows were of the size of oxen, their colors clear black and white in large patches; very handsome”.
