Starfleet’s Lax Security
The Lower Decks episode, “Kayshon, His Eyes Open” S2 Ep2 implies that the cloning of William T. Riker (“Second Chances” TNG S6 Ep24) was not as unique an incident as we would believe. Even if the cloning of Will Riker was a once in millennium event, one would expect Starfleet to have elaborate security measures in place to forestall EXACTLY what happened on Deep Space Nine. The First Officer of the Federation’s flagship has a genetic duplicate running around and Starfleet doesn’t have any protocols in place to prevent this atrocity.
Nope, it’s all “Hi Will, here’s the keys to the only starship guarding the Wormhole.”
