It explains a lot. If Kirk only recruits non-corporeal entities as his yeomen then they are there when he needs them and when he doesn’t. There’s no danger of the female yeoman falling victim to Kirk’s legendary charms. It also explains the sudden disappearance of Yeoman Rand.
