Nitpicking Ghostbusters – Implosion Blowback

“Crossing the streams…”

I can still hear Stantz echoing the idea with a look of resigned terror on his face. Yes, the crew was able to banish Gozer back to his (or her) dimension of origin and the subsequent energy release was enough to explode the top floors of Spook Central and melt the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. The destruction of the Traveler’s form covered the street and Walter Peck with goo.

But WHY were the Ghostbusters and Gozer’s temple covered in goo if the explosion (as explosions are want to do) directed everything away from the building? This is why Spengler and Stantz were wary of crossing the streams to begin with. The energy reversal actually caused an implosion as well that sucked in enough goo to cover the Ghostbusters AND the temple… Well except for Venkman who must have been wearing Spengler’s prototype Goo Repellant Uniform.

Also, yes I realize that in the original meme I misidentified Gozer by her (his?) Gatekeeper’s name. Zuul, the Gatekeeper, possessed Dana Barret. Gozer is the nimble little minx who needed to be banished. I’m correcting the nitpick here instead of redoing the meme.
