Nitpicking Chitty Chitty Bang Bang – Caracticus Pott’s Trained Dog

Nitpicking Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Caracticus Pott’s Trained Dog

Toot Sweets, the failed invention of Caracticus Potts calls dogs because of the whistling nature. There are two things about this that stand out to me. The first is how well trained Pott’s dog is. I wish my dog would clean up after himself.

The second is Lord Scrumptious’ lack of foresight. A mere sixty years after the film is set, the Spangler Candy Company sold Whistle Pops. My sister and I loved annoying our parents with Whistle Pops. Those “toot sweets” were pretty popular in the 70’s less than a decade past the novel and book. Watching the film as a child, I always wondered WHY? Why was Caracticus’ invention deemed unsellable for children?
