Riley is the last of a lineage of Druidic “Line Walkers” that protected Wallaru from unspeakable horrors. A Walker is one of Those Who Walk the Lines, wizards of old trained by the Great Tree himself. Their mission is to protect and defend. Right now Riley’s mission is to recapture Wally and he needs your wizard’s help.
Wally has many names and many forms. Karamelle calls, him Walter. In Polaris, he is known as Charlie. In Night Mire, they call him Waldo. In the Outback of Wallaru he is known as Yara-ma-yha-who. He is a shape-shifting beast who devours his victims over and over, draining them of their blood. Wally is one of the most malevolent, most dangerous creatures in all the Spiral.
Crocodile Dundee is a 1986 action comedy film set in the Australian Outback and in New York City. It stars Paul Hogan as the weathered Mick Dundee and American actress Linda Kozlowski as reporter Sue Charlton. Inspired by the true-life exploits of Rod Ansell, the film was made on a budget of under $10 million as a deliberate attempt to make a commercial Australian film that would appeal to a mainstream American audience, but proved to be a worldwide phenomenon.
Sue Charlton is a feature writer for her father’s newspaper Newsday, and is dating the editor Richard Mason. She travels to Walkabout Creek, a small township in the Northern Territory of Australia, to meet Michael J. “Crocodile” Dundee, a bushman reported to have lost half a leg to a saltwater crocodile before crawling hundreds of miles to safety. On arrival in Walkabout Creek, she cannot locate Dundee, but she is entertained at the local pub by Dundee’s business partner Walter “Wally” Reilly. When Dundee arrives that night, Sue finds his leg is not missing, but he has a large scar which he refers to as a “love bite”.
John Meillon (May 1, 1934 – August 11, 1989) was an Australian character actor known for dramatic as well as comedy roles. He portrayed Walter Reilly in the films Crocodile Dundee and Crocodile Dundee II. He also voiced advertisements for Victoria Bitter beer. He appeared in several Australian New Wave films including Wake in Fright and The Cars That Ate Paris.
The current list of all the (known) Wallaru references are located here.
Although I am well versed in Pop Culture references but I do not claim to have caught them all. Let me know your favorites in the comments and if I’ve missed one you caught, let me know so I can add it to the list.
