Given how Mars is lit by Sol in this still, our Sun is off screen to the right. So given how comets are supposed to behave, (i.e. with the tail facing away from the Sun) shouldn’t this comet’s tail be facing down and to the left?
That said comets in the Star Trek universe have never been known to follow the laws of physics. (as evidenced by every title sequence of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)
