Malistaire Drake

Thank you to the young wizards who made this connection. I cannot read my own handwriting and cannot decipher the three who pointed this out. If you were one of the wizards, let me know and I will credit you.

Malistaire Drake, known mononymously as Malistaire, was a powerful necromancer who served as the professor of the School of Death at Ravenwood School of Magical Arts for several years. A member of the esteemed House Drake, Malistaire was the son of the battle mage Vladan Drake and had only one brother, his twin Cyrus, who is currently the Professor of Myth. Following the death of his wife Sylvia, a heartbroken and enraged Malistaire ripped the School of Death from Ravenwood and threw it into Nightside. He went on a quest to find the Krokonomicon so that he may revive his dead lover and become the Master of Death in the process, asserting his dominion over the Spiral so that no one could hurt his family ever again.

Beginning with an incursion in Unicorn Way, Malistaire attempted to find a book that would help him track down the Order of the Fang and ultimately, the Krokonomicon. With the help of a young wizard recruited by Merle Ambrose, Unicorn Way was liberated and Malistaire’s general Rattlebones defeated, but Malistaire was already following his plan. He would eventually discover that the book had been entombed within the Sarcophagus of the Souls. The Marleybonian expedition to Krokotopia found the Krokonomicon and sent it back to their Royal Museum in Marleybone City. In Marleybone, Malistaire came in contact with the infamous criminal mastermind Meowiarty, and asked him to steal the Krokonomicon from the museum in exchange for his freedom from Newgate Prison. The two would then lock themselves in Big Ben, but by the time the Wizard would intervene, Malistaire had already left for the world of Dragonspyre.

By the time your Wizard arrives at Dragonspyre, Malistaire had already started to perform the ritual to awaken the Dragon Titan and try to use its power to bring his dead wife back to the living. His previous attempt to use necromancy on Sylvia to revive her failed, and left her in the form of a Wraith, underlining his inability to fully bring her back alone. However, with the Dragon Titan awake and presumably under his control, Malistaire attempted to use its power to maximize his own, granting him the ability to fully bring Sylvia back to life and completely reverse her death. Through a climactic intervention at the Crown of Fire by the Wizard and involving his brother Cyrus, Malistaire was killed by your Wizard during a fateful duel.

Years later, Malistaire was brought back by Morganthe to aid with the destruction of Xibalba, known initially as the Dark Servant and later revealed as Malistaire the Undying. After Morganthe’s defeat he escaped, but held onto his obsession of bringing back his beloved Sylvia. Furious at the Wizard for his death at their hands, he invoked the Law of Kan Davasi, which led to a second and final duel of the fates in Castle Darkmoor. After being bested by the Wizard a second time, Malistaire found peace with Sylvia at last, as the two traversed to the Other Side to spend their afterlifes together forever.

Cyrus Drake: “Malistaire, this is Cyrus, your brother. Stop this madness at once! The Dragon Titan will no more serve you than he did the lords of Dragonspyre. Sylvia … your wife… She is gone. There is no power in the Spiral that can bring her back… certainly not this.”
Malistaire: “My brother Cyrus … you have apparently lost faith in my abilities. How unfortunate… and how blind of you. The lords of Dragonspyre lacked the will to command the Dragon Titan… I am far stronger than they were. I am the Master of Death. The Dragon Titan will do as I command. I will order it to return my wife Sylvia to life, so that she might rule at my side…”
Narrator: “Cyrus holds up the Knowledge Crystal storing Sylvia Drake’s memories.”
Cyrus Drake: “I can see that in your madness, there is no listening to reason. But perhaps you’ll listen to the sound of your own heart.”
Sylvia Drake: “Malistaire, please… it’s me, Sylvia. Listen to me. You must stop this madness. The man I loved would never risk the lives of so many for his own desire. I love you… please release me… be happy and move on.”
Malistaire: “I expected better of you, brother! You thought you could trick me with a mere illusion? You’ll pay for evoking my beloved Sylvia! Now for my great work… the summoning of the Dragon Titan. Stand aside, young Wizard… you cannot hope to stop me.”

Malastare

Malastare was a forested planet located in the Malastare system of the Mid Rim, situated along the Hydian Way. Its core was home to large reserves of Malastarian fuel, a toxic fuel found only on Malastare. It was the homeworld of the Dug species, though it was represented in the Galactic Senate by the Gran species, who had colonized Malastare. During the Clone Wars, Malastare was the location of a battle between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems over the planet’s fuel reserves. The battle awoke a creature known as the Zillo Beast, which the Republic successfully neutralized, leading the Dug Council to sign a treaty with the Republic allowing them access to their fuel reserves.

Ainlee Teem was a Gran senator who represented the planet of Malastare in the Galactic Senate during the last decades of the Galactic Republic. When the Trade Federation invaded the planet Naboo, Teem was the senator who supported the Trade Federation’s motion to study Queen Amidala’s accusations in committee. After the call for a a vote of no confidence, then-Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum was voted out of his office. Along with Bail Antilles of Alderaan and Sheev Palpatine of Naboo, Teem was nominated as Valorum’s potential successor. However, Teem’s reputation was tainted with suspicions of corruption, and his candidacy was met with general disdain. Ultimately, it was Palpatine who won the election.
