OOU (Out of Universe) Did Michael Bay digitally insert footage lifted from Die Hard into the scene? Unlikely as 20th Century Fox was not yet a part of Disney at the time. Did Bruce Willis agree to cameo? Possibly as the pair had just made Armageddon together at Disney. Is it a background extra made up to look like Bruce from Die Hard? Equally possible, whichever the case it is intentional. Nothing makes it to the screen without the director’s approval. Michael Bay has neither confirmed nor denied his intentions with the scene. Bruce Willis has deferred comment when asked.
IU (In Universe) Lucky Grandpa McClane, he survived the attack on Pearl Harbor, but cursed his grandson John to forever be the wrong man, in the wrong place, at the wrong time.
