Wand, very rare (requires attunement)
This slender silver rod has a polished tip that flashes with an unnatural brilliance when activated. Originally crafted by enigmatic planar agents to conceal their work, the Wand of The Forgetful Star erases and alters memory with disturbing precision.
Charges. The wand has 7 charges. While holding it, you can expend 1 or more charges to activate one of the following features. The wand regains 1d6 + 1 charges daily at dawn. Unused charges are carried over, the wand NEVER overcharges. If you expend the wand’s last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the wand emits a final brilliant flash and crumbles into useless scrap.
Flash of Forgetting. As an action, you can expend 1 charge to emit a flash of psychic light. Each creature of your choice within 30 feet that can see you must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or have its short-term memory scrambled. On a failure, the creature forgets the last 1 minute (GM’s discretion for exact effect).
Memory Rewrite. By expending 3 charges, you may implant a false memory into one creature affected by Flash of Forgetting. The memory must be simple (no more than a few sentences) and cannot contradict deeply held beliefs. A target can contest this implanted memory with an Intelligence (Investigation) check against your spell save DC when confronted with evidence.
Deep Erasure. By expending 5 charges, you may force a creature to make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature forgets up to the last 24 hours. On a success, the creature resists but is still disoriented, suffering disadvantage on Insight checks for 1 hour.
Spellcasting. While attuned, you may also use the wand to cast calm emotions or charm person (save DC 15), each for 2 charges. The Wand can be used as a focus by Magic Users as a spellcasting component of known spells, expending a spell slot but not a charge.
Caution. Creatures immune to being charmed are unaffected by the wand. Overuse can leave a subject with fragmented or incoherent memories, at the DM’s discretion.
✨ Optional Flavor: Some GMs may decide the wand was crafted by a clandestine extraplanar order tasked with monitoring interplanar threats—perfect for slipping the MIB mythos into a D&D setting.
