Psychic Scroll of Authorization

Wondrous Item, Rare (requires attunement)

Properties

Plausible Authority. When you present the Psychic Scroll to a creature that can see it, you may attempt to convince them of false credentials, documents, or authority. The creature must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier) or believe the illusion for up to 10 minutes whether they continue to see the scroll or not. On a success, they realize the paper is blank.

Creatures that are suspicious, hostile, or of higher intelligence may have advantage on this saving throw at the DM’s discretion.

The illusion ends immediately if the paper is put away, destroyed, or if you use it again.

Blank to the Bearer. To you and to creatures immune to psychic influence, the paper always appears blank. The Scroll only works for the one it is attuned to.

Plausibility Restriction. The scroll cannot project an obviously impossible or contradictory document. (It may look like a royal writ of passage, but not “proof of divinity” or a charter signed by a non-existent king.)

Scaling Power

  • Uncommon Version. Works only on commoners and creatures of Intelligence 10 or less.
  • Rare Version (default). Works on most creatures of Intelligence 15 or less, with a Wisdom save as above.
  • Very Rare Version. Grants advantage on Persuasion checks made immediately after presenting the paper, provided the target failed its saving throw.

Curse / Limitation (Optional)

  • The scroll sometimes reveals the truth of the bearer’s heart. If you attempt to deceive a creature of great willpower (Wisdom 18+), roll a d20:
  • On a 1, instead of showing the intended illusion, the scroll displays a subconscious fear, guilty secret, or embarrassing memory, at the DM’s discretion.

Rarity

  • Uncommon → Rare → Very Rare depending on scaling version.

Intended for social/intrigue-heavy campaigns rather than combat.
