Nitpicking Star Trek Generations – 400-Year Old Toy?

This was head-scratcher when I first saw the movie. Why would Jean-Luc give his nephew (who was clearly fascinated with exploring space) a toy from from a 20th century fictional universe instead of, oh I don’t know, a Federation Starship?

But then this is the fantasy of the Nexus. Maybe fantasy Jean-Luc was suppressing all things StarFleet?
