We Don’t Like It, We’re Leaving
One of the reasons Nitpickers LOVE to pick at Star Trek is that with over 800 hours (837.5 as of 10/01/25) across 950 episodes (and counting) and 13 feature films spread across nearly sixty years, the Franchise as whole has a remarkably cohesive universe and back story. That is why it is so much fun (for a nitpicker) to try to explain why a nit or inconsistency really isn’t a problem.
One of the problems that raises its head from time to time is when the real world has passed dates used for “future” events (The Eugenic Wars of the 90s). For example, the future American flag as seen on the wreckage of the Charybdis with 52 stars and a jarring blue field on top of red stripe. Yet the United Earth Space Probe Agency (UESPA)’s XCV-100 has a 50-star American flag even though it was launched approximately 20 years later.
The question is WHY did the two states leave?
