In keeping with the Haunted Mansion our party is currently exploring, I came up with a WHOLE haunted library ala Gomez Addams

Encounter Mechanics
- The books remain inert until one is pulled from the shelf. When disturbed, all awaken.
- They can hover off the ground, flapping like birds. Some have the ability to run.
- Their CR can be set between 2–3 each (slightly weaker alone, but dangerous as a group).
- The fight can escalate as more books fall open—giving your party a frantic “stop pulling tomes!” realization.

Encounter Notes
- Trigger: The fight begins when one book is pulled from the shelf. The rest join after 1 round, 1d4 books at a time, for rising tension.
- Tactics: Books hover and swarm. “Art of War” boosts the others, “Odyssey” disrupts positioning, “Dracula” heals mid-fight.
- Party Balance: Facing all 8 at once could overwhelm — consider staggering their arrival for a cinematic escalation.

Traits
- Dreamsong Aura. Any creature that starts its turn within 10 ft. of the Goodnight Moon Tome must succeed on a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw or fall asleep until the end of its next turn. If the creature takes damage, it immediately wakes up.
- Moonlit Shadows. Dim light within 30 ft. of the tome becomes supernatural moonlight. Enemies in this light have disadvantage on Stealth checks and Wisdom (Perception) checks relying on sight.
- Haunting Lullaby. When a creature falls unconscious within 30 ft., the tome heals 10 hit points.
Actions
- Moonbeam Lash. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (3d6+3) radiant damage as moonlight bursts worth from its pages. Any being cursed with lycanthropy immediately transforms until the tome is defeated.
- Spectral Bunny Swarm (Recharge 5–6). The tome releases ghostly rabbits from its pages. All creatures in a 15 ft. cone must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw, taking 21 (6d6) necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success.
- Goodnight Forever (1/day). The tome targets one creature within 30 ft. The target must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or fall into a magical slumber. While asleep, they are paralyzed and take 14 (4d6) psychic damage at the start of each of their turns as nightmares consume them. They may repeat the saving throw at the end of each of their turns.
