This staff is forged from an unknown alloy that hums with psionic vibrations. A black orb etched with a glowing alien sigil floats just above its headpiece, rotating slowly in defiance of gravity.

Properties

  • Arcane Focus. The staff can be used as a spellcasting focus.
  • Enhanced Spellcasting. While attuned, you gain a +2 bonus to spell attack rolls and your spell save DC.
  • Cosmic Ray (Recharge 5–6). As an action, you can unleash a beam of alien energy from the staff. Each creature in a 30-foot line (5 feet wide) must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw, taking 27 (6d8) radiant damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success.
  • Psionic Surge. When you deal psychic or radiant damage with a spell, you may add your Intelligence modifier to the damage once per turn.
  • Alien Telemetry. While holding the staff, you have advantage on Arcana checks relating to other planes or alien artifacts.

Sentience (Optional Variant)

  • The staff of the Cosmic Eye may house a fragment of alien intelligence. If so:
  • Alignment. Neutral, curious, and sometimes mischievous.
  • Communication. The staff communicates with its wielder telepathically in strange symbols and sensations, often requiring Insight checks (DC 15) to fully understand.
  • Goal. The staff wishes to open a permanent portal back to its alien dimension.
