Nitpicking Star Trek – Ewww, I’m Not Touching That.

Spock’s loyalty to his former CO is commendable and logical. He is willing to risk the death penalty to bring Christopher Pike back to Talos IV.

However not once during the entire mission does Spock initiate or suggest a Mind Meld to ascertain Pile’s thought on the matter. Kirk may have forgotten about this ability, as he has only jest recently been made aware of the Vulcan Mind Meld. It’s possible Commodore Menendez is unaware of the Vulcan’s ability. Pike certainly can’t say anything.

So why doesn’t Spock ever bring it up? Ewww then he’d have to touch Pike’s icky radiation burns.
