Lore
Forged in an age when battlefield triage was the difference between legend and lamentation, the Lance of Ambu was not crafted as a weapon of war — but as a refusal to let war win.
The first Lance was said to have been borne by Sister Ambulara the Swift, a wandering cleric who ran toward the clash of steel rather than away from it. While knights fell around her, she used the reach of the lance to touch the wounded without leaving cover, channeling radiant vitality through the pole’s runic inlays. Her order believed that mercy, when extended boldly, was the highest form of courage.
The haft of the Lance is typically ash or silverwood, over laid with silver, etched with spiraling sigils of preservation. Its spearhead is blunted or leaf-shaped, glowing softly when life hangs in the balance. When activated, faint spectral hands seem to guide its motion, as though generations of battlefield healers stand behind the wielder.
Some say that when the Lance’s magic surges, distant bells can be heard — not funeral tolls, but the clear ringing of hope.
Mercy Through Reach (Primary Feature)
As an action, you may channel restorative energy through the Lance toward a creature within 10 feet that you can see.
The target regains:
2 die of healing (see scaling below) + your proficiency bonus + your spellcasting modifier
The die type scales with character level:
| Character Level | Healing Die |
| 1 – 4 | 2d6 |
| 5 – 10 | 2d8 |
| 11 – 16 | 2d10 |
| 17+ | 2d12 |
You may use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.
If the target is at 0 hit points, the healing die is rolled with advantage (roll twice, take the higher result).
Battlefield Stabilizer
When a creature within 10 feet of you drops to 0 hit points, you may use your reaction to immediately stabilize them. If you are within reach, you may also grant them temporary hit points equal to your spellcasting modifier.
Overcharge of Preservation (1/Long Rest)
As a bonus action, you may cause the Lance to flare with radiant light for 1 minute.
During this time:
- Your Mercy Through Reach heals an additional die.
- You may split the healing between two creatures within 10 feet.
- Undead within 10 feet have disadvantage on attack rolls against you.
The Lance sheds bright light in a 15-foot radius during this effect.
Rapid Response (1/Short Rest)
As a bonus action, you invoke the Lance’s urgency.
For 1 round (until the end of your current turn), you gain a surge of divine swiftness:
- Your movement speed becomes 120 feet.
- This movement does not provoke opportunity attacks.
- You may move across difficult terrain without penalty.
- If you end this movement within 10 feet of a creature, you may immediately use Mercy Through Reach as part of the same action, even if you have already moved your full distance.
When this feature is activated, the red and blue jewels flash in rapid alternating pulses, and faint spectral hoofbeats echo across the battlefield.
After using this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
