Pop Culture References of Wizard101. I know this series is mainly about the Creatures and NPCs of the Spiral and the Pop Culture influences in their creations. That said, I could NOT forget to do an article on everyone’s favorite Amber giving plant.

Planted and cultivated by wizard gardeners mostly for its ability to generate the reagent “Amber”, this plant is full of showmanship (showplantship?) and is quite happy when given Sun & Music.
Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977) was an American singer and actor. Dubbed the “King of Rock and Roll”, he is regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century. His energized interpretations of songs and sexually provocative performance style, combined with a singularly potent mix of influences across color lines during a transformative era in race relations, led him to both great success and initial controversy.
Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family when he was 13 years old. His music career began there in 1954, recording at Sun Records (Sun & Music for the plant needs) with producer Sam Phillips.

I have always loved the pop culture references in Wizard (and Pirate) 101. This series was inspired by a series I did featuring the Heroes of Lemuria and their ties to early 20th Cent. pulp heroes. This is the sixteenth article chronicling the #W101PopCulture references starting in Wizard City. The current list of all the (known) Wizard City references can be found here. These articles were originally put together for a Facebook group I belong to. Although I am well versed in Pop Culture references but I do not claim to have caught them all. Let me know your favorites in the comments and if I’ve missed one you caught, let me know so I can add it to the list.
