Acan Winefeather

Acan Winefeather is the leader of the Avians in Tula Village. At first he is wary of your wizard due to the fact that you are delivering a War challenge from Techotl Redsmoke.

Later on, in the quest “Follow My Nose”, Acan sends your wizard to find the fabled Jeweled Beak of Zam Two Cans. Zam Two Cans was said to have followed his nose to fame and glory. Thank you to S. Quinn for reminding me to include the name of this quest.

One of two codical death gods is God A’ (“A prime”), corresponding to Landa’s Uac Mitun Ahau, and characterized by a black stripe over the eyes and a “darkness” infix in the forehead. Just like death god A, he figures among the Classic wayob. Instead of being a head hunter, however, God A’ is a demonic apparition repeatedly shown in the illusionistic act of self-decapitation. He is presented with very pale flesh similar to a corpse. Over his eyes are black bands. Like all deities in the underworld, he wears the “aq’ab’al” which is the sign of underworld darkness and divination. The god is shown wearing a large headdress with a femur bone going through the center of it. In most images, he is shown holding either a stave, pipe, or orb. Like most deities in the Mayan religion, he wears jewelry around the neck, wrist, and ankles. He wears a gown or cloth that covers his pelvis area in the front and his backside. His iconography shows considerable overlap with that of an anthropomorphic way (labeled Mokochih) and of a demonic flying insect sometimes carrying a torch (possibly a blowfly, firefly, or wasp). In spite of the above, it has been suggested that the hieroglyphic name of God A’ should be read as Akan, a name otherwise only known as that of a 16th-century deity of alcoholic beverages.

God A’ or Akan

Toucan Sam is the cartoon toucan mascot for Froot Loops breakfast cereal. The character has been featured in advertising since 1963. He exhibits the ability to smell Froot Loops from great distances and invariably locates a concealed bowl of the cereal while intoning, “Follow your nose! It always knows!”, sometimes followed by “The flavor of fruit! Wherever it grows!”

Toucan Sam

In a side note in 2010 Kellogg’s sued the Maya Archeology Institue for copyright infringement in a lawsuit that stated the MAI logo too closely resembled Toucan Sam.

The current list of all the (known) Azteca references are located here.

Although I am well versed in Pop Culture references but I do not claim to have caught them all. Let me know your favorites in the comments and if I’ve missed one you caught, let me know so I can add it to the list.
