Ah Tabai Skyrazor

Ah Tabai Skyrazor leads the Wild Wing Hunters. His men are missing and he sends your wizard to find them.

There were over 250 deities in the pantheon of the Maya and, owing to the mass burning of their books by Bishop Diego de Landa in 1562, much information about the gods (and Maya culture) was irretrievably lost. The Quiche Mayan religious text, the Popol Vuh, gives one set of names for the gods which the Yucatec Maya knew by other names. As such, this is what we currently know of Ah-Tabai, he was the Mayan god of the hunt and protector of animals.

Azteca was released in 2012, Assassin’s Creed IV was released in 2013. So, Ah Tabai Skyrazor and the Assassin Mentor are named for the same Mayan god. Information about the game and character are provided for a comparative nature and to forestall any future questions about “Why didn’t you mention the Assassin’s Creed character in this article?”. Not because the later had any influence on the former. *Note* my youngest (The Pirate) points out that Mentor Ah Tabai was mentioned in the Assassin’s Creed wbesite, Assassin’s Creed Initiates as of September 1, 2012. So there is a slight chance the Wizard101 Development Team was influenced by the name of the character.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is a 2013 action-adventure game, and the sixth main installment in the Assassin’s Creed series. A sequel to 2012’s Assassin’s Creed III, the game has the player take on the role of an Abstergo Entertainment research analyst as they explore the story of Edward Kenway—father to Haytham Kenway, grandfather to Ratonhnhaké:ton, and an ancestor of Desmond Miles. You encounter Mentor Ah Tabai during the game and investigate Mayan ruins at his behest.

Mentor Ah Tabai

Ah Tabai (1660s – c. 1745) was a Maya Assassin and the Mentor of the West Indies Brotherhood of Assassins in the first half of the 18th century. Under his tenure, the Caribbean Assassins secured the Observatory under their protection and decisively destroyed their archenemies, the West Indies Rite of the Templar Order thanks to the unlikely exploits of Edward Kenway, a pirate who eventually converted to the Assassin cause.

Although Assassin control in the West Indies would remain uncontested for the rest of his life, Ah Tabai’s later years also saw tensions with a splinter Brotherhood established in Saint-Dominigue by the radical Assassin François Mackandal. At the end of his life, one of his last acts was to send his last disciple, Achilles Davenport, to the British colonies in continental North America and establish the Colonial Brotherhood. Aside from Achilles, two other notable students of his include Mary Read and Adéwalé, the quartermaster for Edward Kenway prior to his recruitment.
