Coatl Earth Mother

Ponce De Gibbon is looking for the Water of Life, he thinks the sacred spring used by the Moon Skull Priestesses may be this legendary source. Coatl Earth Mother is guarding the spring and threatens to add you to the ranks of the Hungry Dead.

Coatl (also spelled cohuatl, couatl, or cuatl) is a Nahuatl word meaning “serpent”. It is the name of one of the day-signs in the Aztec Calendar.

The Feathered Serpent is a prominent supernatural entity or deity, found in many Mesoamerican religions. It is still called Quetzalcoatl among the Aztecs, Kukulkan among the Yucatec Maya, and Q’uq’umatz and Tohil among the K’iche’ Maya.

The double symbolism used by the Feathered Serpent is considered allegoric to the dual nature of the deity, where being feathered represents its divine nature or ability to fly to reach the skies and being a serpent represents its human nature or ability to creep on the ground among other animals of the Earth, a dualism very common in Mesoamerican deities.

The Couatl is a Dungeons and Dragon monster that was introduced to the table-top role playing game in the 2nd edition Monster Manual. It is described as a 12-foot-long (3.7 m) feathered serpent native to jungle regions, of lawful good alignment, with great magical and psionic power. Based on the creature from Mesoamerican religion.
