The Chosen One

Viv and Aren Treebow have sent your Wizard (if they are weaving Life spells) to Mooshu to consult the Hametsu Village Elder about the secrets of the Mooshu afterlife. The Elder informs you that you seek the long-treasured artifact of Hametsu, the Scrolls of Passing. Alas they were eaten, possibly by the Thermite Termites that lurk nearby. The Village Elder has sent the Chosen One to battle the Termites.

The Chosen One is the Hero Hametsu needs to fight the Thermite Termonarch in her lair to keep her and her underlings from destroying all the wooden structures of Hametsu. He doesn’t want the job. He suspects that he has been chosen because he’s courted the Elder’s daughter and… the Elder is not fond of him. He was chosen to fight the Onis as well.

Your wizard defeats the Thermite Termonarch and saves the Chosen One, much to the “delight” of the Village Elder.

The Chosen One, also known as The One or The Chosen, is a narrative trope where one character, usually the protagonist, is framed as the inevitable hero of the story as a result of destiny, unique gifts, and/or special lineage. The trope is similar to the hero’s journey template, where the main difference is that The Chosen One usually does not have a choice because of destiny. Chosen One narratives often incorporate bildungsroman, following the growth of a character from childhood to adulthood. The character’s gifts, lineage or destiny are often unknown at the start of the plot or presented to the audience as dramatic irony. The Chosen One trope is rooted in religion and mythology, and often appears in speculative fiction that uses elements of mythology.

Harry Potter is the most magical and actually referred to as the Chosen One throughout his films and books.

Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter

Harry James Potter is the titular character of the Harry Potter series of novels by J. K. Rowling. The plot of the seven-book series chronicles seven years in the life of the orphan Harry, who, on his eleventh birthday, learns he is a wizard. He attends Hogwarts, a school of magic, where he receives guidance from the headmaster Albus Dumbledore and becomes friends with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Harry learns that during his infancy, the Dark wizard Lord Voldemort murdered his parents but was unable to kill him as well. The plot of the series revolves around Harry’s struggle to adapt to the wizarding world and being the Chosen One destined to defeat Voldemort.

Harry is regarded as a fictional icon and has been described by critics and publications as one of the greatest characters of all time. He is portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe in all eight Harry Potter films, and Dominic McLaughlin in the upcoming television series. Harry also appears in the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which has been produced on stage since 2016.
