Nitpicking the WalMart WhoKnewVille 2025 Roku Screen Saver

On November 22, 2025, WalMart unveiled the WhoKnewVille ad campaign for the Christmas season.

This included an entire revamp of the Roku Neighborhood.

The Background doesn’t line up as this was stitched in Photoshop.

Walmart’s “WhoKnewVille” holiday commercial campaign features a Dr. Seuss-inspired world where a girl named Mindy Lou discovers Walmart’s ability to provide everything needed for a stress-free holiday, showcasing top brands and deals. The campaign, a collaboration with Dr. Seuss Enterprises, builds on Walmart’s “Who Knew?” messaging by using the whimsical Whoville setting to highlight the retailer’s wide selection and convenient shopping options, such as the Walmart app and Express Delivery.

The irony of the ad campaign is that it completely ignores the through line of the 1957 book by celebrating the crass commercialization of the Christmas holiday. Dr. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is a children’s Christmas book by Theodor “Dr. Seuss” Geisel written in rhymed verse with illustrations by the author. It follows the Grinch, a green cranky, solitary creature who attempts to thwart the public’s Christmas plans by stealing Christmas gifts and decorations from the homes of the nearby town of Whoville on Christmas Eve. As a result of the townspeople’s response, the Grinch realizes that Christmas is not all about money and presents. The ad makers don’t seem to understand the concept.

There’s not a lot items to point out as WhoKnewVille is basically a ROKU neighborhood version of the commercials.

The Walla-Walla-Mart Whiz Wagon Delivery Cart drives down the street at 1:45 am. The Grinch is on the second floor of the first building.
Mindy Lou Who from the commercial is in the third building.
The transforming vendor cart from the commercial is by the streetlight.

That appears to be a Roast Beast in the first house.
Mt Crumpit towers behind the second house as the Grinch sneaks up the stairs. (How is the Grinch in two separate houses?)
There’s Max (Grinch’s antler-wearing dog) at the chimney of the third house.
Welcome to WhoKnewVille

Cindy Loo Who (fifth in line L-R) celebrates Christmas at the base of the town tree. WalMart provided the star this year.

  1. Couple-a things…

1 I see Mindy Lou at the tree (third from left), but no one there looks like any version of Cindy Lou that I’ve seen.

2 I think that’s a third Grinch (seated, looking right) in the building between the flower store and the vendor cart. No clue who the Who in the upstairs window is. Martha May, maybe?

3 I’ve seen two commercials (Town Crier and Mt Crumpet) and neither mentions the truck. Is that just your name for it (which I think fits very well) or is there something I’ve missed?

  2. Dan,

    1. Was going from memory. I still think the fifth one from the left looks a combination of Cindy Lou from the ’66 cartoon and Jim Carey live action.

    2. Possibly.

    3. I searched high and low for the name of the delivery truck. I found nothing, so I did my best to Suess-ify a name for it.
