Starfleet’s Strange Salvage Policy
In an effort to understand the lower decks officers and enlisted crew’s idea of fun, Chief of Security La’an Noonien-Singh and First Officer Una Chin-Riley decide to participate in “Enterprise Bingo.”
Completing each of the tasks the two officers get ready to complete “Sign the Scorch,” the oldest unreplaced piece of hull plating on the USS Enterprise. In 2259, it was located on the forward dorsal section on the primary hull. Wait just a second. That section was destroyed during the battle with Control in the season 2 finale of Discovery. Since it is quite evident from “Spock Amok” that this section of hull plating exists, Starfleet MUST have salvaged this one piece of hull plating from the debris field and then put it back on The Enterprise during repairs and refits after the battle. But this isn’t surprising, Starfleet has shown some meticulous salvage operations before.
Stepping outside of continuity for a second, I would like to point out two signatures on the scorch.
L. Ball (highlighted for a better view) and Peter Davis… L. Ball is short for Lucille Ball, head of Desilu Studios the original production studio for Star Trek. Peter Davis is a member of the VFX crew who presumably worked on the shot.
